Hip replacement is a surgery which is removal and replacement of pelvis and femur (thighbone) that form your hip joint.

Total Hip Replacement

Total hip replacement is the most common surgery which happens in two parts. First part is shaped like a ball on a stem and replaces the head of the thigh bone, with the stem inserted into the thigh bone. The other part is shaped like a bowl replacing pelvis socket.

Partial Hip Replacement

Partial hip replacement which is also known as hemiarthroplasty involves replacing only one side of the hip joint – the femoral head rather than both sides as in total hip replacement. Its commonly done in older patients with fractured hip.

Hip Resurfacing

In case of hip resurfacing,natural femoral head is retained . If you are an active person under the age of 60, it may be appropriate for you to have hip resurfacing. This surgery has advantages and disadvantages, depending on each individual patient.
